So Easter weekend was incredible. 70-75F (21-24C). Sunny, no rain, gorgeous. The only downside was that my attic apartment doesn’t take so well to the heat - oof. So as most of you know me, I had a mobile AC unit delivered on Saturday so now my bedroom will stay nice and cool all summer long. Yes, I am weak, and I own it. But I met my neighbor in the process, so that was a success.
A good group of us also went to the beach on Sunday! A Sunday picnic with wine, snacks, and a whole lotta sunscreen. The beach, Zandvoort, is only 45 minutes from my apartment by train. It’s so close, I may actually go often enough to get a tan this year! (madness, I know).
Then of course was KINGS DAY. The biggest celebration in Amsterdam every year on April 27th, which happened to be on a Saturday this year. Good because we all had Sunday to recover, but not so good because normally we'd have the day off! Kings night is also apparently a huge epic party, but I decided to stay in and relax after a long week. Saturday, Kings Day, was basically an epic frat party in the streets of Amsterdam. They essentially shut down the city center except for trams and metro. They also open up the business license restrictions which allows people to sell anything and everything on the streets. Quite a scene, so many crowds. Every cross street corner was packed with people to the point where it was like mini seas of people and you had to be the tiny minnow swimming through! Eventually the crowds were too much so a couple of us split off in search of a quiet place to sit and grab a bite to eat! We ended up at Sea Palace, a giant Chinese temple looking structure on the water near Centraal Station. What seemed to be a tourist trap was actually delicious food and atmosphere. And of course, in normal Sasha fashion, while the world stayed out the night, I was happily in bed with a book at 10pm.
This past Thursday I found my new local watering hole. It's basically a DC bar that got magically placed in my neighborhood. If you visit, you will be taken there. Not only do the bartenders serve custom magical cocktail creations, but the steaks are cooked to share and their fries are fried in beef fat. Yes, you heard me right. Obviously the restaurant is built around steaks. Beef steaks. Hence the restaurant being called "Beefsteak". Theres also a downstairs cocktail bar, bar only. It's a really neat place. Ended up there Saturday too, so this will be my place!!
Didn't do too much else this weekend besides errands, but I'm heading home to Atlanta this coming weekend! Short and sweet trip, but itll be nice to see some family!
